The focus now shifts back to the Azkals as they are set to face Pakistan in the final match of the 2013 Philippine Football Peace Cup in Bacolod tonight.
Tonight’s match will also create several scenarios depending on the result of the match.
Despite suffering a 1-2 setback against Chinese Taipei last Friday, the Azkals were given a glimmer of hope after the Pakistanis defeated the Taiwanese side 1-0 last Sunday.
It can also be noted that most of the Pakistani players are from KRL FC that faced Global FC last May in Cebu. In addition, this will be the first time the Philippines and Pakistan will face each other in a competitive match.
A draw or win for Pakistan will see the South Asians as the champions. A 1-0 win by the Azkals will give the title to Chinese Taipei based on the head-to-head record, while a win with at least a two goal lead will allow the Azkals to retain the Peace Cup.
Striker Phil Younghusband, who missed Friday’s loss to Chinese Taipei is still a doubt for the squad after getting a calf injury, while several players might not take part in the match because of food poisoning during the weekend.
